Hospital Door
A door was installed at the entrance of the gymnasium, physiotherapy and outpatient department at a hospital for trial purposes.
This was actually built as a fire door for us by Leiderflush.
It was suggested that the wear and tear the door would receive, with possibly the highest passage of constant people/equipment traffic, would indeed place the door under strenuous testing.
The door survived for 5 years until the department was demolished for re-development. Management had moved on and all details had been lost in the process.
However - this door was installed for trial purposes only until further development could take place at a later stage.
The Door had provided effortless entry and exit for:
- Trolley's
- Stretcher's
- Wheelchairs
- Patients with impaired mobility
- Able-bodied patients - all ages (including small children)
- Porter's
- Administration staff with laden arms
- Deliveries of equipment
As mentioned, it stood the test of time over 5 years with constant heavy traffic.
Before the Fire Door
The former door - pictured top left - contended with:
- Stiff hinges
- Catches
- Locks
- Handles
- Huge protection panels
- Only opened outwards
The Fire Door eliminated ALL these problems having no components to break.
- Could be opened and lightly touched with one hand
in either direction, or with the touch of a wheel, or walking aid.
- Did not BLOW OPEN
- Draught free when closed.
Due to financial constraints at that time, although built as a fire door, it did not undergo fire testing and therefore was installed as an entrance door to test robustness added to which it was open to all elements.
Possible Uses:
The designing of the door considered other possible uses for:
Further development will continue. Watch this space.
